One of the animation teams mentioned in a post a couple of days ago about the Gobelins Final Year Students‘ films at the Annecy International Animation Festival has put together a really informative website about the making of their short called “Pyrats”.
Reading through their blog (English version) reveals that the deadline was closer to 7 months, rather than the 4 months claimed on the official Gobelins site.
Even so, the 5 students responsible have got through an impressive amount of work. Quite apart from creating the film, they have also documented all their pre-production work in a new website.
A sampler:
Each of the film’s 5 collaborators has put together a “Making of” film showing their own contribution as a showreel. (There’s some cracking soundtracks here!)
Yves Bigerel
Bruno Dequier
Ben Fiquet
Nicolas Gueroux
Julien Le Rolland
Let us wish them the best of everything in their professional creers.

Isn’t it wonderful to see young talent emerging? Shame they won’t be able to make a living of it these days.
Do you think it would be kinder to tell them that before they started the animation course?
Or let them go through 3 happy years having fun in a bubble of wide-eyed illusion first, then bring them down to earth with a hard bump?
Just joking, but I understand what you’re saying!
I don’t think that this crew will have to wait long for a gig. There’s some good talent there….
I’m sure they will. It just won’t be with peg-bars and dopesheets.
2D is not dead ,I pray for that….
