There’s one really great advantage to all this living in the future, and it’s the appearance of programs like Celtx, a super cool tool that will wrap all your screenwriting formatting and storyboarding into one neat package that’s free to download. It does a lot more besides….

Celtx (pronounced “Keltics”) is such a useful collection of production tools. It comprises several modules that fit neatly and comprehensively together.
There are Location, Character and Scene development tools in the Start section.
The Write section has autocomplete for character names, automatic switching to scene slugline, location, action and dialogue, and so on, and all correctly formatted.
There’s a production breakdown module that produces shooting schedules and cast calendars -
Best of all, there’s a storyboarding module that’s easy to update…
You can drag and drop shots to re-order them or delete them, and to easily drop in new sequences of shots. There’s also a replay button that allows you to check the visual flow of your story.
There’s a lot more to Celtx than this brief overview describes. Head over to their website, take a tour, and download the program for free. There’s even a wiki for all your support questions.
I guarantee you will be pleased by this well implemented program whose commercial equivalents sell for big bucks!
Celtx supports the following platforms:
-Microsoft Windows: NT, 2000, XP, Vista
-Mac OS X
-Linux
It is proudly presented by Greyfirst, a company of Newfoundlanders, or “Noofies” (as they call themselves).
