Filmax Animation are releasing the animated feature film Donkey Xote*, on the 5th of December.
The trailer (below) gave me a little shudder when I saw this CGI animated film featuring a noisy, ugly, fat bloke accompanied by an annoying sidekick who also happens to be a (wait for it…) donkey.
Some of the concept work of this film was done by Alfred Llupia, and I reproduce a couple of his sketches below. (Please click the thumbnail images to see a bigger version).
Alfred also contributed background paintings to the feature -
Here are few links to sites that showcase Don Quixote and its author, Cervantes.
You can hear the entire book read aloud here.
Visit the don Quixote Virtual Museum, and
there’s a gallery of images inspired by the book here.
Now for a truly inspired piece of unintuitive navigation that will, with luck and persistence lead you to a gallery of film posters for previous adaptations of the story - Go to this page, then click on the word “Exposicion” in the brown box on the lower right hand side of the page, a new pop-up page will appear with a small navigation box on the left bottom. Click on the 02 button, and then click again on the tiny word “Peliculas” just under the navigation box. Enjoy the show! It includes this lively poster of Ub Iwerks’ 1934 production.
(Maybe this will serve as a good shortcut. It depends on your browser)

And finally, a link to the Filmax website, where you can see publicity for some of their other animated productions, including Nocturna, which I wrote about here, in October.
*Yes I know; It’s hilarious isn’t it.
