The online “daily magazine” The First Post is currently showing an exhibition of animation online. It’s described as a festival, but I’m not sure how it could be described as such if you are looking at short animated films on their website, all on your own, and there’s with no-one to go for a drink with in the bar afterwards.
The site doesn’t make it obvious who chose the works on view, I looked hard to find an information page (or flannel panel, as journos call it), but none was visible. I await a reply to my e-mail asking for more information.
Nerd corner: In the section called ‘The best animated ads of all time’ there are a couple of films whose directors are “Unknown”. I’m pretty sure that at least two were done at the Richard Williams studio, and I’m almost certain that the Cresta Bear “Blackcurrant” commercial was animated by Russell Hall.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, and fire an e-mail to the First Post if you know any of the other so-called `unknown´ directors. There’s a fabulous Kia-Ora spot by Oscar Grillo in there. I wonder whatever happened to him? (Link….)
