A little bit about me:
I’ve been learning to paint since I was 3 years old.
People have let me practice painting for many years in animation, scenic design and games design.
After much experience of wrangling pixels, I’m rediscovering the wet media I always used to work with. Stuff that I can have happy accidents with. Gooey paints that I can be spontaneous with.
I’m improving slowly, and still learning. Slowly.
Oh! By the way, my name is Michael Hirsh. I live in Surrey in the South of England, quite near London.
This blog is a protracted and rambling reflection on the art traditions that feed into the aesthetics of animated films. It doesn’t always stay on topic.
I have a couple of static websites that show my commercial work.
2) animation-backgrounds.com
This second site contains masses of artwork as well as many tutorials for the natural media vector painting software that I use for really BIG paintings.
The reference to Texticles in the blog’s title is a hommage to the notes that Marcel Duchamp wrote for `The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors, Even´ (also known as The Large Glass), and the outrageous puns and alter-ego he constructed for his female self, Rrose Sélavy. So there you go.
